Signpost Japan is free to read. To pay for it, some links on this site are affiliate links: if you click one and then book or buy something, the company pays us a commission. The price you pay is the same.
Which links
Affiliate links go to booking sites for things like tours and activities, attraction and rail tickets, hotels and ryokan, eSIMs and pocket Wi-Fi, travel insurance and car rental. We work with booking sites directly and through affiliate networks, and the companies we work with change over time.
Booking links appear in clearly marked booking boxes and sometimes in the text. Every article that contains affiliate links says so at the top.
What it doesn’t change
- What we recommend. We decide what to recommend before we look for a link, not after. If something is not worth your money — the Japan Rail Pass is a good example for many itineraries — we say so, whether or not we could earn from it.
- The price you pay. You pay the partner’s normal price. If a partner ever offers our readers a discount, we say so.
- What we show first. We put the option that best fits the situation first, even when another would pay us more.
Free trips and gifts
If we ever accept a free product, ticket, stay or trip, the article that mentions it will say so clearly.
Advertising
We may show display advertising in future. Advertisers have no say over what we write.
